The train has been cancelled ;(
Time for regrouping.
Anybody know anything about the further plans? Is the Odessa IC+ dead?

к сожалению нюансов мотивации принятий решения УЗ не публикует. Но я полагаю дело не столько в населенности, сколько в ее динамике.

Если бы населенность оставалась вцелом столь-же нерадующей, но при этом демонстрировала бы явную тенденцию к росту, пусть медленному, но увреному - думаю он-бы пожил.

И отменили они его внезапно, я был проездом по Киеву рано утром 16 сентября, так диктор объявляла раз 7-8, чтобы пассажиры с билетами на 761-й подошли к дежурному по вокзалу...Нормальный вообще сервис, заплати за билет от 300 грн и более, приедь на вокзал к 6 утра и тут такой облом.

 Такой поезд и за такие деньги имеет право на жизнь только в одном случае, если его время в пути будет в районе 5 часов...

Some people had illusions that UZ wouldn't do anything like that when the private, "commercial", train 901/902 to Izmail was cancelled the very same day its cancellation was announced.
As we see, UZ is no better.

As to the dynamics, how would it be showing a positive tendency when 761/762 was justed as a last resort for holiday travellers in August when all other trains ran full booked?
Of cause there are less pass now, back to basics as VL85 says: It is to slow for the price.
Most passengers prefer overnight or coach (bus) service rather than a (almost) 7 hour day train.
That was my initial thought when I started this treat.
Maxy made a good job of explaining who would use the train, but that didn't change the main point: too slow/too expensive.

6,5 hours seems rather easy to achieve (via Vinnitsa) or 6 hours if via Svitkove (+ 10 km of new track), after that is will cost money.

If upgrading from 100 km/h to 160 km/h then the trip becomes 13 seconds shorter per upgraded km.
It takes 4,6 km to gain a minute. At a cost 4 million Hrivs per km, each minute saved cost around 18,5 million Hrivs.

yes, but the efforts and ivestments needed for this are enogh for example to increase speeds wherever else (there are a lot of places in Ukraine where after such investment result would be percieved as "Wow!" and I would prefer the direction of efforts to those direction but for the Kyiv - Odessa, where even larger investment give the result percieving as "Suxx!".

yeah, and after such a large investment result is still sad (autolux "VIP" bus is still more than 1 hour faster).

Я думаю, что дело не только во времени хода. Если бы отправление из Киева было бы не в свинячий голос, а где-то в 7.00-7.30, то даже при нынешнем времени хода и расценках населенность была бы выше.
