Т.е. ехать в одном и том же место и вагон но возможно с разными билетами, например Будапешт - Чоп и Чоп - Киев. I am sorry if it has been asked and answered recently and I not in interested if the details at this point, just the total amount.

Сколько приблизительно стоит билет Будапешт - Киев?
Ticket of 2nd class (not valid without reservation): 45.3 EUR, bed reservation costs 19 EUR for bed in 3-bed compartment or 29 EUR in 2-bed comrartment.
If you purchase from UZ - add 0,4% mandatory insurance and 32 UAH ticket issue fee.
At present the ticket of 2nd class is valid for 2-bed compartment present UZ car in UZ-MAV connection. As result - travel in 2-bed compartment is better value (74,3 EUR for bed in 2-bed compartment is better choice than 64,3 EUR for bed in 3-bed compartment)..

In case of breaking by Chop:
ticket Chop - Budapest cost 19,5 EUR, bed reservation - costs 12 EUR for bed in 3-bed compartment or 18 EUR for bed in 2-bed compartment

On section Kyiv - Chop - domestic tariff applies (3-bed compartment have price base same as kupe, 2-bed compartment - as SV, but price is different than Kyiv - Uzhhorod kupe and SV in same train, because of other multiplier, Budapest-bound RIC are older, so it's slightly cheaper, easitmately - ~220 UAH for bed in 3-bed compartment or ~440 UAH for bed in 2-bed compartment).

Do you realize the purchase of such combination of tickets it's the extremely tricky, despite it's hypothetically possible.

You easily buy Chop - Budapest ticket+reservation to sleeping car, but getting domestic tickets on same places in same car will be problematic.

They don't appear for sale on domestic section, they remain hidden, "reserved for international passengers".

Yes, you may hunt for them on moment when all those places are released for sale on domestic section (afaik it's 6 hours before departure, but UZ may change this period without any announcement), but a lot of smart-ass already waiting this moment ready to buy tickets as fast as they can. They don't beaking travel to Hungary, they simply need to travel Kyiv - Lviv or Kyiv - Mukachevo but know Budapest-bound RIC is dramatically cheaper than domestic cars of same train. They may catch the beds to the compartment, you've already booked on Chop - Budapest section. They can do it faster than you and no way to prevent them.

Also take into account - the Hungary - Croatia - Hungary tariff is lower than Hungary - Ukraine and lower than Hungary and Croatia domestic tariffs.
But Hungary - Croatia one way is higher.

So if return trip is planned - cheapest way to cover the kilometers in Hungary by buying ticket Zahony - destination place in Croatia - Zahony. For example Zahony - Vrhovine - Zahony costs only 73,6 EUR. It's full fare, available even on day of departure, but only condition to get such price is purchase within Hungary or Croatia.

But you cannot get such ticket before you trap into Hungary, so visiting ticket counter in Zahony on way here is mandatory. It can be the argument to choose not direct car Kyiv - Budapest, but travel with change in Chop and Zahony. On way back - no problem to utilize this ticket for covering travel in direct car Budapest - Kyiv.

So, parting train tickets Budapest - Kyiv is not really realistic, thanks a lot. And the price begins at ~ 65 euros, almost 2000 Hrivs. Air travel is still an option.
The travel is triangular, so there is no outbound travel Ukraine - Hungary - Croatia, only one-way, returning.

The biggest problem right now is that my friends in Croatia at the main station were informed that there is NO through cars from Rijeka to Budapest.
The only night train is Split - Budapest, calling only at Knin which is far to the south, at Ogulin at 00:28 and in Zagreb - in the middle of the night.
There are no buses to Knin, so we would have to go to Split to catch the train, which is a 6 hour bus trip.

We might opt for the overnight train even with the night time hassle because we don't want to spend half a day on a bus from Zagreb to Budapest (5 hours). The bus arrives too late for us make it to any flight out of Budapest, let alone see some of city.

it's definitely cannot be the correct statement (unless you imply is some additional conditions which you did not say).
For example there is overnight train with sleeping cars Rijeka 20:50 - 6:11 Munich

The additional not spoken condition was Budapest-bound trains, thanks for the correction.
I am waiting for price info on the Ogulin - Budapest train from SBB.

I am waiting for price info on the Ogulin - Budapest train from SBB.
why you've decided to ask SBB?

You may ask such things on this forum.

Ticket Ogulin - Budapest one way costs 57,2 EUR outside Croatia and Hungary or 40.2 EUR if purchased in Croatia or in Hungary.
Reservation price is 9,4 EUR for bed in 6-bed compartment 14 EUR in bed in 4-bed compartment, 20 EUR for bed in 3-bed compartment etc.

Reservation have the same price no matter where you buy it (you may buy it from DB, or from OeBB or from SBB). But when buying via mail - you pay surcharge for sending paper ticket (4,9 EUR in case of DB, in case of SBB something kinda 10 CHF, I don't remember exactly, OeBB also charges something).

Ticket - is cheaper to buy from HZ or MAV.

Taking to account that holding the reservation already guarantee your seat - you may buy from DB/OeBB/SBB only the reservation, and get ticket (needed to use already purchased reservation) later, in Croatia.

Thanks a lot. Would you also happen to know if children pay the same amount or any "family" discounts apply?

Children of 4-12 years pay 50% of ticket. Reservation if needed in selected type of car (of you choose sleeper - it's definitely mandatory) costs the full amount.
It's equally applicable regardless if you got 30%/30% discount for purchase in Hungary or Croatia.
So ticket for child of 4-12 years costs 20,1 EUR if purchased in Croatia or Hungary or 28,6 - if purchased in other countries.
There is no CityStar Croatia - Hungary, so no way to get discount for the family travelling together. Also CityStar would require return travel (even if it would exist).

Depends on  the period of travel.

for a short part in the middle of the trip in July.
